Southeastern Psychological Association

Message from Dr. Hanchon:

Greetings!  For those of you whom I have yet to meet in person, my name is Tim Hanchon and last September, I was fortunate to be named the next Administrative Officer of the Southeastern Psychological Association.  Since September, I have been working in close coordination with our current Administrative Officer, Dr. Al Finch.  Dr. Finch is slated to continue in his current role through the end of the 2018 fiscal year, at which time I will assume the AO role full time (a very tall order, to be sure!).  Our current administrative assistant, Amy Limehouse-Eager, will continue in her role after Dr. Finch’s departure, which should help enormously in easing the transition.  Additionally, the SEPA Office will remain on the campus of The Citadel where it has been housed for the past six years.

As a brief introduction, I joined the faculty in the Department of Psychology at The Citadel in 2006.  My doctoral training and degree are in school psychology, and for the past five years I have served as the Director of The Citadel’s Ed.S. School Psychology program.   When the SEPA Office moved to The Citadel in 2011, Dr. Finch asked me to lend a hand in the planning of the annual meeting by overseeing the Electronic Submission System (ESS).  During this time, I have been afforded a wonderful opportunity to work closely with as well as learn from Dr. Finch and Amy, and the experience I have gained has proven to be invaluable preparation for what lies ahead.  To be certain, I still have a great deal to learn.   But, I am comforted in knowing that when or where needed, I can rely upon you and all of the members of this wonderful organization of ours.  I am excited about what the future holds and intent on serving the Southeastern Psychological Association to the absolute best of my ability.

Our next annual meeting will be held Tuesday, March 6th through Friday, March 9th, 2018 (please make note of the change relative to our more customary Wednesday-Saturday schedule) at the Marriott in beautiful Charleston, SC.  We are looking forward to another great meeting in a new, albeit but quite historic, venue.   The “buzz” for this meeting has been strong from the time it was initially announced, so please be sure to make your hotel reservations sooner versus later.  As always, we will be in need of any support you are able to provide.  In particular, if you are able to serve as a reviewer of submissions, or if you are planning to attend the meeting and can serve as a session chair or assist with registration, we can most definitely find a place for you.  We will be making formal requests around the time that the ESS opens, but feel free to contact me anytime in the interim if you are willing to serve.

I very much look forward to seeing everyone next year in the Holy City.  Even more so, I am excited to serve you, the rest of the membership, and our organization as its next Administrative Officer.  I am truly grateful for the opportunity and thank you for your support.

Best wishes,

Tim Hanchon
